Progress on School Plans

Check back periodically for updates

This running list is being provided to inform everyone regarding the programs that were presented at the community town hall meeting for the school.

1. An advisory group was put together.  This group is comprised of school administration, school counselor, some teachers, some school board members, and some business/towns people.  A total of thirteen are in the group.  This group has met and has begun to contact various colleges and universities to find the correct fit for the course work and college work for our students.

2.  Teachers are registered to attend AVID training. Some teachers are going to the June training and others are going to the July training.  They will come back ready to incorporate the AVID curriculum into our classes this next school year.

3. A modified block schedule for classes is being tweaked for classes next year.

4.  The advisory group members met and "live-linked" to a professor at Texas A&M University who has several grant opportunities for some of our STEM teachers.  Several of these grants will be perfect for our school.  More to follow on these grants.

5.  The first group of teachers have gone to the AVID training in Dallas.  The rest of the teachers will attend AVID training in San Antonio in July

6.  The school board and school administration are in the process of converting the district to a District of Innovation.  See article about the written plan found on our web site.

7.  The advisory group met with a grant writer to discuss some grants for the school.

8.  In July, the junior high and high school math teachers will attend an instructional training at Texas A&M University. The training is provided by a "Teacher Quality Grant"  They will come home with some great resources for our math classrooms.

9. Next meeting of the advisory group is June 27th.  Will be talking to teachers who have attended the first AVID training.

10. AVID curriculum has arrived for the district to begin using in the fall.
