FFA at State

The Jr. and Sr. Quiz teams competed this past weekend at the State Leadership Development Event in Huntsville. This competition was the culmination of months of intense study and co-existence in 4+ hour practices with an overbearing Ag teacher. This was overall the hardest working group of kids I have had the pleasure of training. We may have come up a little short of our state championship bid for both of these teams, but lack of effort and dedication was not a factor. The amount of time and dedication put into this single event, on top of the enormous drain of time from all the other activities these kids were involved in, is a testament to the desire to succeed these young people possess.
The Jr. Quiz team consisted of Laston Timmons, Carly Steadham, Emily McCartney, Chase Cook, Hope Harvick, and Jacqueline Gober. This team ended up 4th in the state out of the 505 teams from the other 9 areas across the state. These other teams range from mega- 5A schools to Div. II Sixman schools. FFA makes no distinction in size.
Emily McCartney was received 5th place overall high individual honors. Carly Steadham was one point out of the top ten. Approximately 2100 FFA members started this drive to the state level back in August, which concluded with the top 80 members from the elite 20 teams in Huntsville this past weekend.
The Sr. Quiz team made up of Bradley Steadham, Bryan Voss, Craig Tipton, Greg Salazar, and Paige Cannedy finished 11th in the competition out of the 527 teams that competed across the state.
Bradley Steadham was in the top 20 individual finishers.
To congratulate these kid with a “great job” is an understatement, but “ GREAT JOB”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please take time to congratulate these hard working kids not only for the level at which they represented Throckmorton, but for starting and finishing an endeavor and competing at the level of a Champion.
